No Surprise
Momentum had been gaining over the last 12 months; his age was beginning to catch up with him, and he was being pressured by people across the Democrat Party to stand aside for a younger candidate.
Harris Head And Shoulders Above The Rest
Biden said that he would endorse his vice president, Kamala Harris, to succeed him. If she were to become elected to the White House, then she would be America’s first female president. In the aftermath of the unexpected news on Sunday, different voices across the Democratic Party have come out to support her. Some of them include Hillary Clinton, John Kerry, and Elizabeth Warren, who are all well-respected names. Furthermore, she’ll also be able to use Biden’s campaign funds, which puts her in a prime position to run for the presidency.
At the time of writing, she’s odds-on at 1/16 with Rhino to be the Democratic candidate, so it looks like it’s already a full gone conclusion.
Trump The Top Dog
However, on the other hand, she’s not the favourite to be the next president after Biden. She’s currently the 2/1 outsider in the two-horse race. It is former President Donald Trump who leads the way at the top of the betting at 8/15.
The momentum has been with the 78-year-old over recent months. He came out on top in the poll ratings after the TV debate on CNN against Joe Biden in June, and he also gained further support after an attempt was made on his life a couple of weeks ago. Despite his ongoing court cases, his loyal, hardcore fanbase still continues to rally around him, and there is a general feeling in the US that he will regain the presidency in 2024.
Hard Work For Harris
Kamala Harris will have a lot to do to get closer in the polls, as most independents have Trump ahead of her. Before the announcement at the weekend, the Republicans had already started campaign material denouncing her policies and everything she stands for, so they were already on the ball.
If the Democrats can rally around her, which I think they will, then I can see the price of 2/1 shrinking and it becoming a close election. As they say, a week is a long time in politics, and we’ve still got quite a few to go, so a lot could still change before US voters go to the ballot box.
