Ipswich Town
Kieran McKenna will have an emotional rollercoaster as his Ipswich Town side hosts his former employers Manchester United. McKenna spent many years at the Theatre of Dreams on the coaching staff. Their home record will certainly need improvement if Kieran McKenna’s side are to stand any chance of survival this season. Ipswich Town played five games on home soil during this campaign, drawing three and losing two. The hosts have scored four and conceded eight, averaging 0.6 points per game at Portman Road. Ipswich Town have conceded 1.6 goals per game, which could provide an opportunity for the visitors to exploit. Tough tackling Sam Morsy will have to be careful being one yellow card away from picking up a suspension.
Man Utd
The big story heading into this game will be centered around Ruben Amorim as Manchester United look for another solution to bring long-lasting success back to Old Trafford. Amorim ended his spell with Sporting Lisbon unbeaten in all competitions this season and with two Portuguese League titles. The 39-year-old’s first task is to immediately improve the league position of the underperforming Red Devils in 13th. Despite the league position, there is still a viable chance that Manchester United could qualify for the top four this season. However, that remains to be seen. Amorim will rely on the likes of Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford to make an impact, he is also reunited with his former Sporting player Manuel Ugarte to give United the engine and bite that’s needed in the midfield.
Prediction
While Ipswich will push United hard, the visitors’ superior quality in key areas could edge them to a narrow victory, but can see both sides scoring.
