EFL Saturday Treble: The Bubble Can Burst For Gillingham

With the international break in full swing this weekend, the focus shifts to the EFL for the English domestic action. Our football experts have selected three teams to include in a Saturday afternoon treble across League One and League Two.
EFL Saturday Treble

Wrexham v Shrewsbury

Wrexham faces Shrewsbury on Saturday afternoon, and there’s plenty of reason to believe the Red Dragons can secure a victory. With their dynamic attacking duo of Paul Mullin and Ollie Palmer, Wrexham has been relentless in front of goal this season. Their home form at the Racecourse Ground has been formidable, creating an atmosphere that visiting teams struggle to cope with. Shrewsbury struggled in League One last season, and they only narrowly avoided relegation. Though they beat Leyton Orient 3-0 last weekend, on the road they’re just not the same team. If Wrexham can maintain their defensive discipline and capitalise on set-pieces, then they have every chance of outplaying Shrewsbury and taking all three points.

Selection: Wrexham To Win (2/5)

Barnsley v Bristol Rovers

Barnsley host Bristol Rovers at the Oakwell Stadium this weekend. The Tykes have been defensively robust, boasting one of the best backlines in League One, which could stifle Rovers’ attacking threats. Barnsley’s midfield, led by playmaker Adam Phillips, has been excellent at controlling the tempo and creating chances, making them dangerous in transition. Bristol Rovers have struggled with consistency away from home, and Barnsley’s pressing game could expose their defensive frailties. With home advantage and a well-organised squad, Barnsley can secure the win.

Selection: Barnsley To Win (4/6)

Doncaster Rovers v Gillingham

Doncaster Rovers look to have a strong chance of securing a win against Gillingham on Saturday. Since the appointment of Gavin McCann, their fortunes have changed, and a promotion challenge could be on the cards. Moreover Luke Molyneux, who is leading the League Two goal scorer standings, will be a significant threat for Doncaster. Their midfield has also shown excellent ball retention and creativity, allowing them to dictate play and apply sustained pressure on the opposition. Though Gillingham are top of League Two, they struggled when they played Doncaster last season, losing 2-1 in this exact fixture. This could be the game where the bubble bursts for Gillingham fans.

Selection: Doncaster Rovers To Win (4/5)
