England v Greece Betting Preview: Carsley Can Continue To Stake His Claim

Thursday night sees the return of the UEFA Nations League as England face Greece at Wembley.

Unbeaten Records On The Line

England v Greece should be an interesting game as both sides remain unbeaten after winning their opening two Nations League games last month. Despite that, England are strong odds on favourites to win at 2/7, with the draw at 17/4, and Greece the 10/1 outsiders to win.

The Interview Continues For Carsley

All eyes will be on Lee Carsley from an England perspective coming into this game. Carsley remains interim manager after a solid start. England so far under his reign have beaten the Republic of Ireland 2-0, as well as Finland by the same scoreline. There has already been talk about him getting the job on a full-time basis, and a convincing win against Greece could seal that.

Familiar Faces

For his squad, he’s mainly stuck to the same names as last time. Angel Gomes and Noni Madueke, whom he knows well from his time as the England U21 manager are both selected. However, this time around he has recalled Phil Foden, Kyle Walker, Jude Bellingham, and Cole Palmer, who weren’t part of the squad last time out, so it will be interesting how he uses them. Elsewhere, Dominic Solanke has also been rewarded with selection, and he gets his first England call-up since 2017.

Kane Dilemma

When it comes to team news, the Three Lions should be able to field a strong eleven. There is a concern about the fitness of Harry Kane after he was cleared by the Bayern Munich medical team. If Kane is on the bench, I’d suspect Ollie Watkins will be given the nod to start on Thursday night. Therefore, if you’re getting involved in any player markets, I wouldn’t get stuck until we know the line-ups.

Greece Need To Be Respected

Though England should have too much quality for Greece, the Ethniki shouldn’t be dismissed so lightly. The Greeks have put up some good fights over the last couple of years, and they even got a 2-2 draw against France last November. However, they will be missing star striker Fotis Ioannadis through injury. In Greece’s last two Nations League games, he had bagged three goals, so they’re going to be reliant on the likes of Vangelis Pavlidis, who could do a job for the Ethniki.

Another cornerstone to why Greece has performed well is because of their defence. They kept two clean sheets against the Republic Of Ireland and Finland and could frustrate England’s attack for sometime. I don’t think Greece will be hammered, and I am seeing a similar scoreline to England’s previous two games. Therefore, I’m going to side with England to win 2-0 at 5/1.
