A Proper Premier League Clash
Everton v Newcastle is always a fascinating game, with two of the most historic clubs in English football going head-to-head. The betting has Newcastle as the favourites at 23/20, Everton as the outsiders at 21/10, and the draw at 13/5.
Turning Point For The Toffees?
After a poor start to the season, Everton managed to pick up their first win of the season as they beat Crystal Palace 2-1 last weekend. Despite going 1-0 down, the Toffees showed great fight, and thanks to a bit of magic from Dwight McNeil, managed to get their head back in front. Also in that game, they were able to bring back Jarrad Braithwaite to their defence after he missed the opening weeks of the season through injury. He’s been linked with moves away to the likes of Manchester United, so he’s going to be a big player for them if they are to avoid relegation this season.
Gordon Ready For Goodison Return
When it comes to Newcastle, they have picked up points without putting together dominant performances. However, in their last game, they put up a valiant display against Premier League champions Manchester City and were rewarded with a 1-1 draw. Despite not having their star striker Alexander Isak available, the likes of Anthony Gordon and Harvey Barnes really stepped up and made a difference in that game. It looks like Isak will be missing again here, so Gordon will likely lead the line against his former club.
Magic McNeil
For this game, I don’t have a strong opinion on the outcome, as I think either team could win it. Therefore, I’m going to look at the goalscorer markets, and I am looking at Dwight McNeil. I already mentioned that he bagged a couple of goals against Crystal Palace last weekend, but he’s got a good record against Newcastle. In his last two games against the Magpies, he’s scored three goals in two games. The 24-year-old can be a streaky player, so I am hoping he can continue his good record. He’s currently 7/2 to score anytime against Newcastle on Saturday night.
Dirty Magpies
The last angle I am looking for in this game is at cards. Newcastle are currently the outsiders at 13/8 to have the most cards in the game, which I think is the wrong price. The Magpies have Joelinton who has received the most yellow cards in the Premier League this season with four. They also have Dan Burn and Fabian Schar, who are also prone to picking up cards. I won’t be surprised to see several Newcastle players in the referee’s notebook.
