The second semi-final kicks off in Dortmund, and England and the Netherlands have Berlin, and a place in the final, in their sights.
England found a way to win against the Swiss last time out. They were improved from previous matches, but still far from their best for long periods of the match. Southgate seemed short of ideas and once more it was a reactive, rather than proactive, bout of substitutions which changed the game after England fell behind late on. Saka’s equaliser was a fantastic strike and hopefully it will provide a spark that finally kicks this team into action, after what has been a lifeless display up until now.
The Netherlands were in trouble against Turkey in the quarter final and were somewhat fortunate to find two late goals to advance to this round. Turkey laid siege to their goal in the final moments and, whilst Gunok had made a miracle save in the previous round, it was his Dutch counterpart, Verburggen, who produced his own highlights reel as he kept Turkey at bay.
This is a difficult encounter to call, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the game go to extra time. England were brilliant when it went to spot kicks last time and there is every chance we could go the distance again here.
Tip: Both teams to score – Yes [21/20], Full-time draw [7/4], England corners over 4.5 [17/20]
