For a period of more than 50 years, the German national side seemed to always find themselves in the latter stages of every World Cup and Euros. Whatever shape or form the team was in, they could never be written off. Whilst that hasn’t been the case for much of the last decade on home soil, they will take some stopping.
Steve Clarke’s side have already upset the odds in making the finals. They qualified through a group that contained Spain, Norway, Georgia and Cyprus, losing just one match along the way. They will know that, whatever happens in tonight’s game, they have an excellent chance to reach the knockout stages and can approach this match knowing it’s somewhat of a free hit.
I expect Germany will take all 3 points but this, like many opening matches, could be a cagey affair. If you’re looking for a longer priced shot then it wouldn’t be a surprise to see McTominay pop up with a goal (odds 13/2) or Scotland to take the lead in this match. (odds: 7/2)
When: 14th June | 8pm – Munich
Match Overview:
Germany delivered a dominant performance against Scotland in their opening match of Euro 2024, winning 5-1. The hosts took an early lead with goals from Florian Wirtz and Jamal Musiala in the first 20 minutes. Scotland’s situation worsened when Ryan Porteous was sent off just before halftime for a dangerous tackle on Ilkay Gundogan, which also resulted in a penalty converted by Kai Havertz to make it 3-0.
Pick: Germany to get off to a win. Half-time draw, Full-time Germany [odds 3/1]
