Manchester United vs Leicester City Preview

Manchester United v Spurs
Manchester United host Leicester City at Old Trafford tomorrow night in what could be a tricky EFL Cup encounter for Ruud Van Nistelrooy’s men (sounds weird, right?). United’s interim manager will be itching to make a mark in his first game in the hot seat, following a dismal run of form under predecessor Erik ten Hag. The Foxes themselves will be looking to give their away support something to cheer about following an underwhelming home defeat to Nottingham Forest in the Premier League last Friday.

Venue: Old Trafford

Form Guide & Key Stats

  • Manchester United: The word inconsistent barely comes close. Their last home outing saw a gutsy second half comeback to overcome Brentford, but another miserable away day saw them lose to an out of form West Ham at the London Stadium over the weekend. Whilst United have found it difficult to find the back of the net in the league this season, they have scored 12 times in the four cup fixtures they’ve played so far this season, 7 of which came against Barnsley in the previous round.

  • Leicester City: Leicester, on the other hand, have scored in every league fixture they’ve featured in so far this campaign, with their only blank coming in this competition as they limped past Walsall in the third round, winning 3-0 on penalties. Whilst their shakey defence will always leave them vulnerable to conceding, Leicester’s ability to find the onion bag will fill them with confidence that they can get themselves in the hat for the next round.

Players to Watch

  • Rasmus Hojlund: The Dane is always hungry to score goals and will be more eager than ever to get on the scoresheet after finding the net only once in his last four outings for the Red Devils.
  • Abdul Fatawu: The exciting, young Ghanaian is proving a real handful for defences to deal with this season and will fancy himself to cause this United defence a real headache tomorrow evening.

Summary

Both teams have proven their vulnerabilities this season, which should set us up for an eventful last 16 fixture, packed full of goals (cue the 0-0). Van Nistelrooy will be looking to rebuild confidence in the United faithful whilst Steve Cooper will let his side go out and express themselves, with little to fear against this United outfit.

Pick of the markets:

PRICE BOOST ! : Manchester United to win in 90 minutes and Both Teams to Score. (WAS 13/8 – NOW 7/4)
