This weekend’s Premier League action concludes with a tussle of titanic proportions at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon, when title rivals Arsenal and Liverpool face off in a top of the table clash. Both teams were unconvincing winners in their midweek Champions League affairs, as the Gunners edged out Shakhtar Donetsk 1-0 whilst Liverpool beat RB Leipzig by the same scoreline

Arsenal

Prior to last weekend’s trip to Bournemouth, Arsenal fans had to go back to New Year’s Eve 2023 for the last time that their side were beaten in a Premier League away fixture, but more alarming was the indiscipline from Mikel Arteta’s men. With William Saliba suspended for the game on Sunday after his red card last week at Bournemouth, and with both Martin Odegaard  and Bukayo Saka missing midweek in the Champions League, that’s potentially three key players who could be out for Arsenal this weekend. Add to that an injury picked up by new summer signing Riccardo Calafiori and doubts over Jurrien Timber’s fitness, Arsenal look vulnerable.

Looking on the positive side for Arsenal, Kai Havertz has started the season well, contributing 4 goals and an assist and with the squad depth Arsenal have, the likes of Brazilian duo Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus could still cause Liverpool problems.

Liverpool

A Liverpool side with no such disciplinary concerns to worry about head to the Emirates with Arne Slot enjoying a wonderful start to his tenure at Liverpool. 7 wins out of 8 in the league leave Liverpool top of the table and 4 points clear of Arsenal.

The Reds passed one of the tougher challenges of their title credentials last Sunday, when a rejuvenated Chelsea gave Liverpool a scare, but Mohamed Salah’s penalty and Curtis Jone second half goal gave them a 2-1 win. A win on Sunday would move Liverpool onto 24 points from their first nine games of the new term – only once before have the Reds managed as many points at this stage of a Premier League campaign, taking 25 from nine in their triumphant 2019-20 year. Liverpool do have some injury worries with goalkeeper Alisson out as well as Diogo Jota missing, but with the fire power they possess, as well as a midfield trio of Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister and a rejuvenated Ryan Gravenberch, it could see them triumph at the Emirates.

Conclusion

An intriguing match up sees Arsenal welcome the meanest defence in the league, with Liverpool having conceded only 3 goals. With Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka potentially out, Arsenal may lack the creative firepower to crack the Liverpool defence and may get frustrated. Liverpool are making winning a habit and I expect this fixture to potentially be a cagey match with Liverpool grabbing a goal to take all 3 points away from the Emirates. Backing Liverpool at the boosted price of 2/1 to win at Arsenal looks the bet in this game.

Tip: Liverpool to win – 2/1 Boosted price.
