Henry Brooke: A Magnificent May

It’s been a great start to the new jumps season, and I currently find myself at the top of the Jockeys Championship with seven winners, even though it is very early days.

Ollie’s and Josh’s horses have continued to be in flying form, so it’s been great to be able to ride a few winners for them. I’ve also had support from Brian Ellison and my agent, who has managed to get me a couple of nice spare rides, so I feel like I am in a good place at the moment.

Away from the jumps, the Flat is now in full swing, and it’s great to see Josephine Gordon join the Rhino Bet team. She’s been doing really well riding some winners up and down the country, so hopefully she can have a successful season.

This week I’m off to Southwell on Tuesday where I have two rides for their afternoon meeting.

My Tuesday rides at Southwell

2.30 – Happy Du Mesnil (Oliver Greenall and Josh Guerriero)

He looks to have a very good chance of getting his head in front again after he bolted up over this course and distance last week. I thought he won really well, and he seems to have got his jumping in really good order. It won’t be easy carrying the 7lb penalty, but I am looking forward to getting back on him.

4.30 – Belvedere Blast (Adrian Keatley)

I know this horse fairly well after I won a few races on him last season. He’s a horse that tends to go well fresh, so coming back here after a break shouldn’t be a problem. With the yard going well, I can see him running a nice race.

This week is a bit quiet, but I’ve been given the opportunity by some owners to go and watch Manchester United play Newcastle at Old Trafford on Wednesday, which will be something different for me.

Later in the week I will be at Aintree on Friday night and then at Bangor-On-Dee on Saturday, which could be a busy card for me, so you’ll be hearing from me again soon.
