Henry Brooke: “Hopefully we’ll See a Bit of His Old Spark Back on a Track He Won at Last Year”

Hi everyone. Such a shame racing was called off last Saturday and we missed out on The Becher Chase at Aintree. I really fancied Gaboriot for that. He runs Saturday at Doncaster now instead, so I’m hoping he can go and win there. More about that in my blog tomorrow, but for now I have a few thoughts below on my Friday rides at Doncaster.

Henry Brooke: “Hopefully we’ll See a Bit of His Old Spark Back on a Track He Won at Last Year” | Rhino Bet

Friday – Doncaster 11:40
MELON

This youngster has been running on the flat and won his last race at Haydock on soft ground. I’ve schooled him at home and he’s a really versatile horse who jumps well and obviously has a turn of foot. It’s a good little race for him first time out but we’re hopeful for a good performance and he’ll definitely progress throughout this season.

Friday – Doncaster 12:50
CHARGING THUNDER

Nice to get this ride for James Owen. He’s won his last two races, although was slightly lucky the last day when the leader fell two from home. Having said that, he’s a nice horse and stayed well on the flat. This track should suit him more than any he’s been run on previously. He’s ran at Fakenham and Sedgefield which are both quite undulating tracks. Doncaster being a big long galloping track should really suit him.

Friday – Doncaster 13:25
HOMME PUBLIC

This lad needs no introduction after having an excellent season last year. He’s always a pleasure to ride and is definitely a favourite in the yard back home at Josh and Olly’s. He’s being missing the mark slightly of late. He’s not really fired on his first couple of runs this season. Josh feels he’s turned a corner in his work at home so hopefully we’ll see a bit of his old spark back on a track he won at last year.

Friday – Doncaster 14:32
MRS TABITHA

This Mare runs for Josh and Olly. She’s a bumper winner and has won once over fences, however, if anything she’s been a bit disappointing as she has loads of potential but finishes her races inconsistently and we’ve hit the crossbar with her a few times when we probably should have won. This doesn’t look the most competitive race and she carries no weight so I’d like to think she can go and get the job done here.

Friday – Doncaster 15:07
GENTLEMAN BILL

My last ride is having his first outing in a handicap. Got slightly lucky last time out when the horse in front of him came down. Doncaster should suit him nicely as he settles well and is a good little jumper. I’m looking forward to him making his handicap debut as I think he can be very progressive this season.
