Henry Brooke: It’s A Case Of Weather Watch At Cartmel

It was great to return from my break and ride a double at Perth last weekend.

Both of my winners, Ailt An Chorrain and Here Comes Georgie, were for Patrick Neville. His horses have been a bit quiet over the past year, so it was nice to help his team get back into form.

I think Patrick Neville is a trainer we’ll be hearing a lot more about in the future.

The Real Whacker has been his stable star over the last few seasons, but he’s got some promising young horses coming through that could really boost his profile. I’ve got connections to a few horses in his yard, and I’m hoping to team up with him more as we head into the autumn and winter.

I’m supposed to be at Cartmel on Saturday, where I am booked for two rides. However, both horses wouldn’t want the ground to get too soft and it looks like there could be some rain around. That means we’ll be paying close attention to the weather forecast this weekend. Fingers crossed it can stay dry.

My Saturday rides at Cartmel

2.15 – Ibiza Rocks (Oliver Greenall & Josh Guerriero)

He has been a little bit disappointing in both his efforts over hurdles so far for Olly and Josh. I do think he’s a horse that will improve once he gets a mark and goes into handicap company. Also, he’ll probably prefer good ground, as most of his best form on the Flat came on a better surface. If he does take his chance, then we’ll just be hoping for a good, clear round of jumping and see how he gets on.

4.35 – Cardamon Hill (Dianne Sayer)

This lad has run some good races this summer, and he was a nice winner for me at Perth last month. His most recent run came at Cartmel, where he finished way down the field, but you can put a line through that run as it was on soft ground. This will be a drop in grade for him as he’s back in a Class 5, so he should find life a little bit easier if we do run.

I hope you all have a good Bank Holiday weekend, and you’ll be hearing from me again soon.
