Henry Brooke: I’m Doing It For A Reason As I Think The Horse Has a Really Good Chance

Henry Brooke
Hi everyone! Hopefully plenty of you are coming back to read my blog a few quid better off after I talked up my two Ayr winners here last week.  I’m off to Aintree on Saturday with four rides, one of which carries 10 stone 2 pounds, a weight I haven’t done for a long time. I’d be lying if I said the next few days were going to be fun for me! Ha

I walk around at 10 stone 8 usually, so I have six pounds to lose. To make the weight I cut down on my food intake and try and sweat it out while reducing my water intake. I’ll be in the gym a lot over the next two days trying to sweat as much as possible. Saturday morning I’ll be having a sweat in my sauna at home to just drop the couple of pounds. It’s a short term sacrifice and hopefully the horse can put in a nice performance to make it all worthwhile.

Saturday – Aintree 12:20

MORAN’S LAW

This horse ran well enough for us first time out and he would have improved for that run. It looks quite a competitive little race, but being Aintree on a Saturday you wouldn’t expect anything less. Hopefully he can take another step forward and progress again.

Saturday – Aintree 14:05

EL BORRACHO

This lad ran well up to a point at Kelso. He’s pretty consistent and never really runs a bad race but hasn’t quite found the form that saw him win numerous times during 2022. Hoping he can re-discover some of that ability again.

Saturday – Aintree 14:40

GABORIOT

My third ride is in The Sefton over the National fences, which we obviously won with Gesskille last year. As I said, I have to do the weight which I haven’t done for over a year. I’m doing it for a reason as I think the horse has a really good chance and was traveling really well when he unseated in the Fox Hunters on the same track. He’s jumped really well to that point. I’m really looking forward to this race.

Saturday – Aintree 15:15

IRISH LULABY

My last ride is a mare who likes a flat track which Aintree most certainly is. She didn’t run badly at Carlisle but maybe struggled to get up the hill. Looking forward to riding her in what should be her ideal conditions.

Have a great weekend everyone!
