Josephine Gordon: Porfin Has Been Going Well At Home

Some of you might remember I had a winner last week at Kempton when I teamed up with Keiran Burke to ride Stacey Racey.

Stacey Racey Is One Tough Filly

It was a tight call, as we just got the nod in a photo finish. Stacey Racey is a tough little filly, and she deserved to get her head in front. That was also her first win over 7f. She’s very lightly raced at that distance, and I would be hopeful that she could have more to offer over that trip.

It’s been a bit of a quiet time for me this week. However, I am off to Chelmsford on Saturday night, where I have a couple of rides for Phil McEntee. Both of them would have a chance of producing their best form, so it would be nice if they could run well.

My Saturday rides

Chelmsford

7.00 – Em Jay Kay (Phil McEntee)

He’s had a little bit of a break, but before that, he had run well this summer, which included a win at Nottingham. We are now coming back to the all-weather, but that should be a problem for him as he’s got plenty of experience on an artificial surface. As this is his first run for a while, I’d expect him to probably need the run. When we get properly into the autumn and winter, then I think you’ll see him in a better light.

8.00 – Porfin (Phil McEntee)

He’s been a great horse for Phil, who has done plenty of winning throughout his career. His work has been good at home, and I’d expect him to put up a better show than his latest effort at Wolverhampton. This time he’s stepping up to 7f, which won’t phase him as he’s won over this trip before. We’re drawn in Stall 1, so hopefully I can get him in a nice position early.

Cambridgeshire Meeting At Newmarket

Elsewhere this weekend there is some really good racing at Newmarket with the Cambridgeshire meeting. There has been plenty of rain around HQ, and the ground will definitely be riding on the soft side.

The horse I am looking forward to seeing is Whistlejacket for Aidan O’Brien, who runs the Middle Park Stakes. He’s looked like a classy juvenile this season, and he was last seen winning the Group 1 Prix Morny at Deauville. The ground shouldn’t be an issue for him, as he’s won on soft before. I think he’ll take all the beating on Saturday.

I hope you all enjoy the racing this weekend, and I’ll catch up with you again soon.
