Weather Watch!
Wherever they’re racing on the turf at the moment, it’s definitely going to be soft ground. Most jockeys and trainers will certainly be keeping an eye on the weather this week.
When it comes to me, I do have a couple of rides on the all-weather this week that will keep me ticking over. Hopefully they can both run well and be in the mix.
Wednesday
6.20 Kempton – Sixfiveseven (Keiran Burke)
I rode him last time out at Salisbury, where I think he ran better than bare form suggests. That wasn’t a bad race, as there were several horses represented from big yards, including the winner, Military Academy, who finished second in a Listed race at Newmarket last week. I also don’t think Salisbury really suited him, as he’s a big horse. It will be interesting to see how he gets stepping on the all-weather at Kempton. I do think he’ll develop into a nice horse for Keiran. He just isn’t the finished article yet.
Thursday
7.30 Chelmsford – Silver Shamrock (Julia Feilden)
I’ve ridden this filly a couple of times, and she wasn’t beaten that far last time out when finishing fifth at Chelmsford. I probably sat back a little too far on her back that day, as she ran on well inside the final furlong. That race was over 1m2f, and I feel the trip really suited her well. That was only her second go at the trip, so I’d be hopeful she’d have scope for it moving forward. She’ll be running over the same distance again in this race, and if she’s in the same form as last time, then I think she’ll have a good chance of hitting the frame.
The only thing that should be noted is that there are a lot of horses entered in this race, and she’s towards the bottom of the weights. Therefore, we won’t know until declarations on Tuesday if she’ll run. If she doesn’t take her chance, then she’d be one I’d keep an eye out for.
Thursday
8.00 Wolverhampton – Raintown (Stan Moore)
He was a good winner when I rode him at Lingfield last month. It was a steadily enough run race, and he did well to quicken in the home straight. Though he really likes Lingfield, he has won at Wolverhampton in the past so switching to the Tapeta surface won’t be a problem. We are stepping up an extra couple of furlongs to 1m6f, so he will need to prove his stamina, as he’s not had many goes on this trip. If he stays then he should be competitive.
Whatever you’re doing this week I hope you are keeping well, and I’ll check in with you again soon.
