Josephine Gordon: Drop Back In Trip Will Suit Stacey Racey

It was a bit of a quiet week in the racing world last week, but one horse who impressed me was Field Of Gold in the Solario Stakes at Sandown on Saturday.

The race was a bit of a tactical affair, and they didn’t seem to go overly quick, so he did well to quicken and pull away from his rivals in the final furlong. The Gosdens clearly hold him in high regard, and he has entries in the Royal Lodge and Dewhurst in the coming weeks, so it will be interesting to see where he goes.

Moving on to my rides this week, it’s definitely going to be a busy one. I’ve got rides at Newcastle, Kempton, and Wolverhampton, so I’m certainly going to be putting in the miles.

Tuesday

6.45 Newcastle – Simiyann (Ian Williams)

I rode him last time out at Chelmsford, when he made up some late headway to get fourth over 1m6f. This time around we’re stepping up on a trip to 2m, which I think will suit him. I can also see the track playing to his strengths, as he’s got a nice long home straight to help him get into top gear. Hopefully he’ll be there or thereabouts.

Wednesday

8.00 Kempton – Stacey Racey (Keiran Burke)

You can forgive her latest run where she had a bad draw, and she probably didn’t quite see out the 7f trip. This week we’re going to drop back to 6f, where two starts ago she finished second over this course and distance. If she can get back to that form, then she’ll have a good chance. These races at Kempton are always very competitive, but she loves the track, and that will give her a nice advantage over some of her rivals.

Thursday

6.55 Wolverhampton – Eadha (Phil McEntee)

I was a little bit disappointed with her run at Chelmsford last time out, as her work was good at home. Maybe she just needed the run that day, and she can come forward from it here. Some of her better runs have come at Wolverhampton, so hopefully that will also help her.

Friday

9.00  Kempton – Vitaline (Keiran Burke)

He’s coming back after a few months off the track, but he’s a horse who usually runs his race. Earlier this year I won on him at Kempton, and he’s back down to his last winning mark. It’s possible he may need the run, but I am very much looking forward to getting back on him.

I hope you all have a good week, and I’ll catch up again with you soon.
