Josephine Gordon: I Can’t Wait To Get Back On Next Second

After a few weeks of being off the track due to an injured wrist, it was great to be back at the track at Newmarket on Friday night. I’ve had a couple rides since then, and I’m now ready to kick on.

This week I’ve got a few rides lined up across the country, so it would be nice if we could get a winner or two.

My rides this week

Tuesday

9.00 Wolverhampton – Next Second (Ruth Carr)

I’ve got a late night on Tuesday, but I don’t mind as I love this little filly. She’s got a fantastic record at this track, and I was able to win on her at the start of July two starts back. Her last run was a little disappointing, but she’s the type to bounce back. Things do have to go her way during her races, and we’ve not got the greatest of draws in Stall 9. However, we’ll give it a good go, and hopefully we can overcome it.

Thursday

8.30 Chelmsford – Eadha (Phil McEntee)

I know her really well, and I’ve ridden her from day one at home. Her work seems to have improved a bit of late, and she’ll be coming here after a few months off. I’m expecting a big run from her.

9.00 Chelmsford – Chiedozie (Phil McEntee)

It was his best run for Phil when he finished second at Lingfield last time out. That effort was on the turf, so he’ll need to back it up as we return to the all-weather here. It looks like 5f will be his trip, as he’s got a lot of speed. I’d be hopeful he could step forward and go one better this time around.

My York thoughts

Elsewhere we’ve got the Ebor Festival at York to look forward to this week. It’s always a great meeting to watch, and there are always plenty of top-quality races. York is what you call a galloping track, meaning it’s very fair, where the best horse usually wins.

City Of Troy’s Hardest Test Yet

City Of Troy will be the horse everyone will want to see in the Juddmonte Stakes. Apart from the 2,000 Guineas, he’s been exceptional, and he was fantastic in the Epsom Derby. This will be his biggest test to date, as there are a lot of very good horses taking their chance. Despite this, I think he will still come out on top and show his star quality.

Keeping The Faith With Emily

It looks like Emily Upjohn will be going in the Yorkshire Oaks. Though she’s not won for a while, I’m not giving up on her. Last time out, she was disappointing at Goodwood, but I don’t think things went right for her. Coming back to York should be a plus for her, as she won the Musidora as a three-year-old. I’m hoping that can revitalise her and she can get back to winning ways.

York No Problem For Big Evs

In the sprinting division, Big Evs will fly the flag for Mick Appleby in the Nunthorpe Stakes. He loves York and has won at the track on both his career starts. I think he is a superstar, and I’m really excited to see what he can do on Friday.

Audience Is The Real Deal

Audience is a horse who has really improved leaps and bounds this season. Everyone seemed to think his win in the Lockinge Stakes was a fluke, but he proved his doubters wrong when he bolted up at Glorious Goodwood. If the ground can stay dry, then he’ll be getting my vote.

I hope you all enjoy the racing this week, and I’ll catch up again with you soon.
