Josephine Gordon: More To Come From Charencey

It was a good weekend for me, as I won on Charencey at Leicester for Ian Williams on Saturday. After the weather we had last week, it meant the ground had dried out, and I was able to hold him up and bring him into the race.

As we entered the last couple of furlongs, I struggled to find a gap, so I had to switch to the right, but once we got into the clear, he flew home and won well. He could still be ahead of the handicapper, so I wouldn’t be surprised if there was more to come.

My other ride at Leicester was again for Ian, but this time on Law Supreme. Though we finished second, I felt he was very unlucky, as the race wasn’t run to suit. We went very slow and it turned into a sprint. Despite this, he remains in good form, and he’ll be able to get his head back in front again soon enough.

I’ve managed to pick up some good rides for Ian in recent weeks, and we’ve teamed up for a couple of winners, so it would be nice to keep up the partnership for the rest of the season.

Earlier this month, you might have seen me on Nick Luck On Sunday. I’ve been on that show a few times now, and I really enjoy it. There are always plenty of healthy racing debates, and we were also able to discuss the Guineas action at Newmarket that weekend.

Moving on to this week, my plans are a little bit up in the air, but I could have a few rides across the country.

My potential rides this week

Afterlife (Phil McEntee)

He is due to run at Chepstow on Tuesday night, but he could also run at Lingfield on Thursday. The last time we saw him, he finished sixth on his seasonal return at Leicester, so hopefully he’ll come on for it wherever he runs.

Autumn Flight (Phil McEntee)

I know this horse well after I won on him at Brighton for Phil last year. He’s now 10lb lower than that win, so at the weights, he is quite well treated on his old form. This winter, he’s run some good races on the all-weather, and he finished fourth at Lingfield the last time I rode him. Phil has him in Bath on Wednesday, so it looks like he’ll be going there.

Moktasaab (Phil McEntee)

He was out in Bahrain for most of the winter, but the last time we saw him, he wasn’t beaten far on the all-weather at Southwell. He could go to either Newbury or Newmarket on Friday if he gets declared. I ride him pretty much every day at home, but this will be the first time I’ve ridden him at the racecourse.

Unico (Marco Botti)

She was a good winner for me at Yarmouth when I won on her last month. The handicapper has only raised her 3lb for that win, so there should be a bit more to come. Her only entry is at Newmarket on Friday, so it would be nice to get back on her at HQ.

Prometeo (Marco Botti)

I don’t think it was a bad race he won at Yarmouth last month. He just really seemed to handle the better ground, and he’s only 3lb higher this time around. If the rain can stay away, I think he can go well again.

Em Jay Kay (Phil McEntee)

It was a good run from him when he finished second on his turf debut at Yarmouth last time out. He could be heading to Newmarket on Saturday, and hopefully he will run another solid race.

I hope you all have a good week and you’ll be hearing from me again soon.
