Gym Has Been Important For My Mind Set
I’m still doing my exercises in the gym, which has really helped me keep me focused on coming back fit and healthy. It can be easy to just put your feet up and rest when you’re injured, but keeping active has been important for my mental health.
King Evs A Stable Star
In other news, we had a great meeting to watch at Glorious Goodwood, which kept me occupied. The story of the week for me was seeing Big Evs winning the King George Stakes over the fast 5f for Mick Appleby. He was a great two-year-old last year, winning at York and at the Breeders’ Cup, but it’s been great to see him kick on again this season. He is a true stable star for them, and it proves to other people that the so-called lesser stables can win big races when they are provided with the right horses.
Forgiveness Key In Racing
If you read my Five To Follow at Glorious Goodwood, then you’ll know I was quite keen on Notable Speech to run well in the Sussex Stakes. A lot of people had lost faith in him after he disappointed at Royal Ascot, but it just goes to show that you need to have a forgiving nature in horse racing from time to time. He was very impressive, and I am excited to see what he can do moving forward.
It was a shame Rosallion was ruled out as it would have been great to see the rematch. Hopefully he’s ok and he’ll be on the back track again soon and we get the clash everyone wants to see.
King Kyprios
I was also very impressed with Kyprios when he won the Goodwood Cup. He broke the track record that day and also proved once again that he is the best stayer in the UK and Ireland. It will be interesting to see where Aidan O’Brien will send him next.
Racing League Has It’s Place
The big topic that has been discussed in the horse racing world recently is The Racing League. Some people feel that it doesn’t belong in racing, but I think it has its place. The Racing League has been up and running for a few years now, and it seems to be growing in popularity. It’s very competitive, or at least Matt Chapman makes it that way. The prize money is very good, and the team element makes it a bit different.
The Shergar Cup Is A Great Opportunity
Speaking of team competitions, it’s the Shergar Cup at Ascot this weekend. I’ve been fortunate to ride for the Girls Team a few times, and I won it with Hayley Turner and Hollie Doyle in 2018. I found it to be a great opportunity to demonstrate your skills. You’re riding for trainers that you wouldn’t normally get to ride for, as well as competing against different riders from all across the world. The crowd always gets behind the teams, and there is always a great atmosphere. I’m a massive fan of it, and I will be keeping an eye on the action there on Saturday.
I hope you all have a good week and I’ll give you another update soon.
