Keiran and his owner, Michelle Crook, have supported me all winter, and it was a good performance in a hot race. I’m hoping he can transfer some of that form to the turf, as I do think there is more to come from him moving forward.
This Saturday I’m off to Yarmouth for their evening fixture, where I have one ride for Phil McEntee, so hopefully we can have a winner.
What is it like to ride Yarmouth?
I really enjoy going to Yarmouth, and I’ve been pretty lucky there throughout my career. It’s quite an easy track to ride with there being a long home straight. They often have a great crowd, and it usually has a nice family atmosphere. Furthermore, it’s just up the road from me, so it’s normally an easy journey.
My Saturday ride at Yarmouth
4.40 – Em Jay Kay (Phil McEntee)
It’s a quick turnaround after he ran a positive race to finish a close second at Wolverhampton on Monday. This will be his first time on turf, but I am hopeful he will show some improvement here. He also runs off the same mark, so he should be competitive. Phil’s horses seem to be in good form, so I can see no reason why he won’t run a nice race.
Here come The Classics
Elsewhere this weekend, we’ve got some great racing at Newmarket with the first two Classics of the season.
In the 2,000 Guineas, I think City Of Troy will win. I put him on my list of five horses to follow for the season, as I think he could be a very special horse for Aidan O’Brien. He was a very impressive winner of the Dewhurst Stakes last autumn, which is always a good pointer to the 2,000 Guineas. I am really looking forward to seeing him run.
On Sunday for the 1,000 Guineas, I think Fallen Angel for Karl Burke has a very good chance. Karl has a few nice fillies entered in the race, but she might just be the pick of them. The daughter of Too Darn Hot looked classy when she won the Moyglare Stakes in Ireland last season, and I think there could be a lot more to come from her in 2024.
Whatever you’re doing this weekend, I hope you enjoy the racing and have a good one!
