Nottingham Race Preview: Nothing Can Stop Shamrock Bay

Thursday sees Rhino Bet sponsor a six-race card at Nottingham. I think the trainer to follow could be Mick Appleby, who always does well with his runners at the track, and he looks to have a great chance of bagging a couple of winners.

2.00 – Charge Up Your Summer With Rhino.Bet EBF Maiden Fillies’ Stakes – Skellig Island (Each Way)

There is the potential for a few smart fillies to come out of this race; however, the one I like is Skellig Island. We know a bit more about her compared with the others, as she’s raced twice on the track, but her last run at Kempton was very encouraging. She showed a lot of speed that day and rallied well to get fourth close home, where the winner looks like a potential Group or Listed filly. I think dropping back to 5f looks like a good move, and I think she can put her experience to good use.

2.35 – Follow Us On X @betrhino Handicap – Sergeant Mayer (Win)

Sergeant Mayer has been holding his form well in recent weeks. He finished fourth at Leicester on his last start and then a close third at Doncaster the time before on quick ground, so the conditions should be fine. Nigel Tinkler does very well with his sprinters, and this doesn’t look to be a strong race. I think he can be rewarded for his consistency here.

3.10 – New Footy Season Specials At Rhino.Bet EBF Restricted Novice Stakes – Shamrock Bay (Win)

This looks like another good opportunity for Shamrock Bay to get his head in front. He was a bit of a character in the preliminaries when he made his racecourse debut at Yarmouth last month, but that didn’t stop him winning. He will have to carry a 7lb penalty for that success, but I don’t think that will make a difference. This is a weak race with plenty of exposed types, and I expect the son of Cable Bay to be too good for the opposition.

Terries Royale put up a career-best performance when he finished third at Nottingham last month. That run was his handicap debut, and he was only beaten a head by Sycamore, who reopposes here. However, the selection is now 1lb better off with him, and I expect to come forward for that run. Mick Appleby is also having a really good week after saddling a winner at Glorious Goodwood, and I think he can have another one here.

4.20 – Blog.Rhino.Bet For Daily Racing Insight Handicap – Ardbraccan (Each Way)

Ardbraccan never knows how to run a bad race, and last time out he was an eyecatcher when finishing strongly to finish fifth at Pontefract. That effort was over 1m, and this time he’s stepping up to 1m2f, which looks like the right move. He also likes Nottingham having won at the track earlier in the season. Moreover, Sam Feilden is booked for the ride, taking off a handy 7 lb, which also will help his cause. With a lot of things in his favour, he surely has to go well.

4.55 –  Follow Rhino.Bet On Instagram Handicap – Wannabeawallaby (Win)

This could be the day for Wannabeawallaby to enter the winners’ enclosure. He’s been a consistent performer on that Flat this season, and he ran well to finish second at Lingfield last month, which has been franked by the winner. It’s interesting to see Dylan Cunha reach for the first-time cheekpieces, which might help with his head carriage, which is a little high. However, he’s a horse who tries his best, and I think it will be good enough to get the job done in the lucky last.
