Sam James: Holloway Boy Deserves To Win

This week I will be riding in York at the Ebor Festival, where I’ve got a few nice chances. The Ebor Festival is one of the biggest Flat meetings of the season, and there is always a great atmosphere across the week.

The racing is always competitive, with plenty of runners and top-quality horses. It’s never easy riding a winner at these racing festivals, so you have to appreciate when you do get in the winners’ enclosure. I’m really looking forward to seeing how the next few days unfold.

My Ebor Festival rides

Wednesday

4.45 – Got To Love A Grey (Karl Burke)

She ran her best race for a while when she finished second at Glorious Goodwood earlier this month. Coming back to York will be a big positive for her, as she won the Listed Marygate Stakes here as a juvenile. It’s always nice to ride a horse who has good form at the track. She’s a speedy filly, and she would definitely have a good chance here.

Thursday

2.25 – Our Mighty Mo (Karl Burke)

He was unlucky at Pontefract last time out, when he was hampered in the closing stages, so you can put a line through that race. He’d have a chance here, but we’re lining up in the sales race, and these events are always very tough to win. There are plenty of lightly raced juveniles who could be open to any amount of improvement and sometimes draw bias can play an important part in the result. We’re drawn in the middle in Stall 12, so we’ll have options, and we’ll see how we get on.

3.00 – Holloway Boy (Karl Burke)

This horse has been very consistent all year without getting his head in front. He ran really well in the Golden Mile handicap at Glorious Goodwood, and another repeat performance would see him in the mix again. Hopefully the cards will fall right for him, as he definitely deserves to win a race of this nature.

4.10 – Karmology (Karl Burke)

It was good to see her get some black type as she finished second in a Listed event here last month. We’re staying in the same grade again here, but we’re stepping up an extra couple of furlongs to 1m4f. She should stay as she’s by Golden Horn, and the ground won’t be a problem. I can see her progressing again, and I wouldn’t be surprised if she went close.

I hope you enjoy the action at York this week, and I’ll catch up again with you at the weekend.
