Though I’ve not ridden a winner on the Knavesmire this week, a couple of my rides ran well. Holloway Boy ran another solid race to finish third in the Clipper Logistics Handicap off topweight. He’s just been so consistent all season and deserves to win a race. Hopefully Karl will find him a nice race to get his head in front soon.
Karmology also wasn’t disgraced, as she finished second in the Listed Galtres Stakes on Thursday. She has gone close on her last two starts in this grade now and has proved she’s definitely capable of winning at this level.
When it comes to Saturday, I’ve got three rides on the card, all for Karl Burke, so hopefully we can end the festival on a high.
2.25 York – Imperial Sovereign (Karl Burke)
I’ve not ridden him before, but he’s dined at the top table in some very good races this season. His last run wasn’t a bad effort when he finished sixth in the Queen’s Vase at Royal Ascot. He probably just found things a little bit tough that day, so he could go well dropping into handicap company for the first time. Having said that, the Melrose is always one of the hottest three-year-old handicaps of the Flat season, so we’ll see how we get on.
4.45 York – King Of Light (Karl Burke)
The gelding operation seems to have been the key to this lad, as I won on him in a competitive little race at Musselburgh last time out. Clearly this is a massive step up in grade as we try Listed company for the first time, but he deserves to take his chance.
5.20 York – Bystander (Karl Burke)
Most of his best form has come on the all-weather, but he didn’t shape too badly when he finished sixth in a decent handicap on the turf at Glorious Goodwood last time out. A repeat of that effort would put him in the mix in a race of this nature. I’ll be keeping an eye on the weather.
I hope you’ve enjoyed watching the racing at York this week, and I’ll catch up again with you soon.
