Wimbledon 2024: Paolini Can Make Experience Count

Today sees the semi-finals of the Women’s Singles at Wimbledon. On paper we’ve got a one close match and one that has a warm favourite, but I don’t think it will be plain sailing, now that we’re getting to the business end of the tournament.

Both Players In The Form Of Their Lives

The first match is between Donna Vekic and Jasmine Paolini. I put Paolini last in the quarterfinals and she won well to beat Emma Navarro in straight sets. Vekic also needs respect after she came back from going behind to beat Lulu Sun.

I do think this will be a close game that could go into a deciding set as both players are arguably in the form of their lives. However, I am just going to go for Paolini to edge it 2-1, as she’s got the experience of getting to the final of a Grand Slam and that might just give her the edge.

Krejcikova Is No Outsider

The second semi-final sees the 2022 Wimbledon Champion, Elena Rybakina take on Barbora Krejcikova. Rybakina has been put as a warm odds on favourite, but I don’t think she’ll have it her own way. Krejcikova has beaten her in both their career meetings and she’s also got form at Wimbledon winning the Women’s Doubles.

Both players have only lost one set in 2024 at Wimbledon, and I think this will be another tight game. On the other hand I do think Krejcikova is worth a saver to win at 7/2, given their previous history against each other.

Hopefully the rain stays away from SW19 and we can get a day of uninterrupted play.
