A Game Of Contrasts
Wolverhampton Wanderers v Liverpool will be an interesting match for different reasons. Wolves are currently lingering at the bottom of the table, and they are yet to win a game in the Premier League this season. Liverpool, on the other hand, have only lost one game and find themselves towards the top end of the league standings under Arne Slot.
Confidence At A Low
Last season, Gary O’Neil did a good job with Wolves after he replaced Julien Lopetegui and managed to steer them to a 14th-place finish. This season, though, things aren’t going well, and they’ve managed to throw away leads in their last two games against Aston Villa and Newcastle. It just seems to be that when they concede, their heads drop.
Business As Usual
When it comes to Liverpool, they just seem to have picked up where they left off since the departure of Jurgen Klopp. I think the key to them is the spine. Allison, Van Dijk, and Salah are all world-class players and could play in any team.
Deadly Diaz
However, their shining light this season has been Luis Diaz. We’ve always known that he is a quality player, but he just seems to have been inconsistent at times. Despite this, he’s kicked off this campaign in red-hot form, scoring five goals in five Premier League games. On three occasions he’s been the first goal scorer, and that’s the way I am looking here. The Columbian is currently 11/2 to score first, and I think that represents fair value.
Another angle that might be worth keeping on side is the card markets. So far this season, Wolves have the second worst disciplinary record in the Premier League with 17 yellow cards. Compare that with Liverpool; they’ve got the second best, picking up 9 yellow cards. The Black Country side are 4/6 to be the team with the most bookings in this game.
Overall, I think the game will be a routine win for Liverpool, and I can see Wolves staying at the bottom of the Premier League after this weekend.
