Pressure On Players
This week’s event is the Wyndham Championship that takes place at Sedgefield Country Club in North Carolina. It is often seen as one of the last opportunities for those lurking at the bottom of the FedEx Cup standings to qualify for the playoffs.
Staying Away From Sungjae
The favourite for this week’s event is South Korean, Sungjae Im, at 14/1. He’s been playing well in recent weeks and recorded two Top 10 finishes at the Open and Scottish Open. This will be a different test for him, as he’s been used to playing links golf these past few weeks. However, he’s no stranger to success on the PGA Tour, with two victories next to his name. He is likely to be on the premises again, but I think there is better value to be had elsewhere.
Cool Head Needed For Svensson
I’m going to take a flyer with my main selection this week in Adam Svensson, who is currently 75/1. The Canadian played well at this event last year, where he finished in a tie for seventh place. Furthermore, he was in contention at the 3M Open last week, and he could have won if he hadn’t thrown it away in the final round when he recorded a disappointing four over par. Despite that, the 31-year-old has been making cuts in recent weeks, so he’s been showing that he’s in form. If he can put it all together at a course he played well at last year, then he could be a dangerous proposition for the field.
Hence The Hojgaard Hour
The other player I think will play well this week is Nicolai Hojgaard from Denmark. He’s been making a lot of cuts this year without threatening to win. However, last week he played well at the Olympics and finished in seventh place. At one point he really looked like he could threaten for a medal, but he threw away his chances on the back nine. Last year he was in contention at this event, and he finished in a tie for fourteenth place. The Dane is still very young, at 23 and learning his craft, but he keeps being in the mix, and therefore, at 55/1, I wouldn’t be surprised if he were to pop up and win this week.
