Spain came through qualifying with relative ease, bar a surprise loss to Scotland, and have rightly been installed as one of the favourites for the tournament. The three-time winners have a strong squad but, as has been the case for some time, lack a world class striker to lead the line.
Croatia performed brilliantly at the last World Cup, dispatching Brazil and reaching the semi-finals. They were far from at their best during qualifying, managing just over 1.5 goals per game, but with a defence conceding just 0.5 goals per game they ground out their passage to Germany. In Modric the Croatians have a true world talent, however with the games coming thick and fast will their 38-year-old talisman be able to drive them to glory.
