It was a much-improved performance for Ukraine last time out against Slovakia, where they shook off the lethargy of their opening game and recorded a much needed win. All four sides in the group are equal on points, but frustratingly for Ukraine their goal difference is by far the worse. If the other game in the group ends in a draw, Ukraine will need all 3 points tonight to have a chance to advance in the tournament.
Belgium’s campaign is alive and kicking thanks to Tieleman’s rasping drive, which gave them lift off against Romania. There was a real sense of purpose and belief from the Belgians and they immediately took the game to Romania and showed what a wonderful attacking side they are capable of being.
Tonight’s game feels like it could be dictated by the scoreline in the other group game. The longer Slovakia and Romania remains a draw, the more Ukraine will have to open up and take the game to Belgium. This could be exactly what’s needed for the Belgians, as they look to top the group and head to the knockout stages.
