Switzerland came close to topping Group A and only a late German goal prevented them from a famous victory. If they’d held on in that game they would have faced Denmark, and it could be argued that that would have been a tougher draw than the Italians, who have been poor so far. Switzerland have had back-to-back draws coming into this game, and it seems likely that another low scoring affair could be on the cards tonight.
Italy needed the latest of equalisers against Croatia to finish in 2nd spot in Group B and advance to the knockout stages. They played well against Albania, but were completely outplayed by Spain and lacked any kind of cohesion or fluency against Croatia. Italy are the current holders of the Euro crown, but it is hard to see them defending their title. This is a team in transition, that is short on quality and, even if they advance tonight, I cannot see a scenario where Gil Azzurri lift the crown in Berlin.
Tip: Under 2.5 goals [odds 40/85] Switzerland to win in extra-time
